After experiencing a decline in her mental health, an unnamed woman is taken to a secluded country house by her physician husband. Forbidden from working or writing, she is confined to an upstairs room and instructed to rest until she recovers.

With nothing else to occupy her mind, she becomes obsessed with the room’s sickly yellow wallpaper. Its twisting pattern seems to move, and eventually she becomes convinced that a woman is trapped behind it-creeping, struggling and desperate to escape. As the boundary between reality and delusion begins to dissolve, the room becomes both her prison and the only place where freedom seems possible.
