In 1944, as the Second World War rages overseas, Meiko Briggs and her daughter Aiko are imprisoned in a remote internment camp for Japanese Americans—even though Aiko was born in the United States and Meiko is married to an American pilot.

Then a mysterious illness begins spreading through the camp. What appears to be a minor cold soon provokes terrifying fits of aggression, violence and death. Meiko suspects the disease may have supernatural origins connected to the Japanese demons and folktales of her childhood—but the threat is rapidly spreading beyond the camp.

Inspired by Japanese yōkai and the jorōgumo spider demon, The Fervor blends historical horror with the supernatural to explore prejudice, fear, injustice and the devastating consequences of treating an entire people as the enemy.
